Houses in Corpus Christi, TX
Ah, vacation time…a novel and bathing suit tossed in a bag…sunglasses stashed as you step onto the plane that’s waiting to take you to paradise…and then you’re on your way through the clouds…next stop: a Google search results page. As you open your eyes groggily and lift your head from your laptop keyboard, you blink at the screen filled with vacation destination images and realize you were only dreaming…
For many people this year, as is the case most years, summer vacation was slated as the time for travel and venturing away from home in search of exciting adventures (snorkeling in Belize, anyone?) and new experiences (pistachio gelato in Italy, perhaps?)… But as 2020 swerved from spring into summer, those travel plans melted away like gelato in Belize on a summer day, leaving would-be vacationers with nothing except mental escapes via the internet, not to locations all over the world, but instead to places all over the world wide web. The Covid Times forced many of us online in this time of social distancing and quarantine, but now that August is here, it is time to put summer behind us and start preparing to head back to school.
Corpus Christi Independent School District (CCISD) serves the majority of students within the city of Corpus Christi. It is comprised of approximately 38,000 students enrolled in 36 elementary schools, 13 middle schools, and 11 high schools. According to the most recently available report from the school ranking website Niche, CCISD is “an above average, public school district.” The Niche report notes that CCISD earned an overall “grade” of B, based on ten different categories including academics, sports, teachers, administration, diversity, and more, with only one category being graded below a B (i.e. Food, C+).
Corpus Christi Independent School District is currently registering students for the 2020-2021 school year. The first day of school for all CCISD schools is Thursday, August 13, 2020. The plan for schooling in the local area during these uncertain times has been built with the health and safety of staff and students at the forefront of all efforts. For now, all CCISD students will begin school via remote instruction, which will continue at least until September 7, 2020. The hope is that school buildings will be able to reopen after that time for those who may need access to face-to-face learning rather than continued virtual learning. Those who prefer to continue with virtual learning will be able to do so. (For more information about the CCISD plan for the 2020-2021 school year, visit the website to view the “CCISD Return to School Plan.”)
