The Texas Gulf Coast presents several Christmas and holiday-themed events every December. Even during the current pandemic, there is no shortage of festive holiday fun this year. You and yours are sure to get into the holiday spirit when you experience one of the jolly offerings. Read on to learn about three events in the area that will bring a smile to your face this season!

HOLLY-DAYS at the Gardens

The South Texas Botanical Gardens & Nature Center, a 501(c)(3) non-profit in Corpus Christi, offers visitors a wealth of information and educational opportunities that relate to plants and the environment, with a focus on the native flora and fauna of South Texas. During the holiday season, it hosts an event called “HOLLY-DAYS at the Gardens.” HOLLY-DAYS shows off a living, lighted 20-foot fir tree where guests can have photos taken with Santa Claus. Other coordinated photo opportunities available are “Holiday Photos with Merry Macaws” and “Picture Time with Tortoises,” while holiday cut-outs throughout the locale provide spontaneous photo chances. Families can explore the Orchid Conservatory, Bromeliad Conservatory, and Butterfly House which feature decorated trees, and participate in other activities, including going on hayrides, visiting a petting zoo, and caroling.

Christmas Nights at The Texas Zoo

‘Tis the season to visit the Texas Zoo to revel in the twinkling lights and sip hot cocoa! The Texas Zoo, located north of Corpus Christi and inland in Victoria, is a 501(c)3 nonprofit with a mission to connect people with wildlife from Texas and beyond while advancing conservation efforts. This December, the Zoo presents “Christmas Nights,” a safe, socially distanced event for you and your family to enjoy this season. Stroll through the zoo, and view the fun animal-themed inflatables along the way…stop for a family photo at one of the photo booths…and share your holiday wishes with Santa! You will find plenty of hot chocolate and candy canes, as well as crafts and games. This event is sure to bring a smile to everyone who visits the beautiful winter wonderland!

“A Pandemic Nutcracker” presented by Victoria Ballet Theatre

Victoria Ballet Theatre (VBT) is a non-profit 501(c)3 regional dance company based in Victoria, Texas. The VBT mission is to enrich the local and surrounding communities through dance. VBT presents “A Pandemic Nutcracker” from 10-13 December. The socially distanced performance tells a slightly different version of the classic story of Clara and her Nutcracker Prince, but it promises to be no less magical to watch. If your holiday season just isn’t complete without attending a performance of “The Nutcracker,” a viewing of VBT production could be just what you need!
